Ugh, we finally have our power back on. We lost power last night at 10:45 (right in the middle of ER dammit) and it didn't come back on until about 6am. Then it went off again around 8am and didn't come back until about 4:45pm this afternoon. We had almost no food in the house that didnt need to be cooked to eat, and I didn't want to open the fridge in fear that the power might be off for several days. So for breakfast I had a pack of Smores poptarts. Lunch was McDonalds (Westford, because Ayer had no power) and dinner was Chili's chicken crispers (Brad & I got takeout, the wait at Chili's was over an hour and a half).
Mom has no power. My dad has no power because lines were ripped from his house, and probably won't have power for days. Meme has no power, because lines were ripped from her house, so she probably won't have power for days either. My grandmother has a wood fireplace, and my dad has a gas one, but that's about all they've got to keep them warm. My mom has a woodstove, and she said that anyone can come up to her place to keep warm if they need to. She can heat the entire house with her woodstove.
I think Shannon's still without power too. They have no heat or water, as far as I know, so hopefully they are finding a way to keep warm. :(
It's sometimes cool with the power out. When you are at work and get to go home early (or have the day off like I did), and sometimes it feels kind of neat to be part of this massive emergency, but in general, its BORING without power. Especially in the winter, when the daylight ends around 4:30 pm. Once it gets dark, what can you really do by candlelight but read, right?
Ah well...its back on for me. Hopefully I can get a good night's sleep. Last night was pretty crappy.
