Phase 1 details

So, here is the gist of phase 1 of South Beach. This phase lasts 14 days. Although, you are allowed to do it for an extra week or two. But beyond that, they say it really isn't a good long-term diet because it is so limiting in foods.

You should lose approx 8 to 13 pounds in BELLY FAT in the first 2 weeks.

Off limits:
Fatty meats
Carrots, Corn, Potatoes
Breads, Cereal, Oatmeal, Rice
Alcohol of ANY kind
Icecream
Regular yogurt or regular milk
Fatty cheeses

Allowable foods:
Diet sodas, water, skim milk
Lean meats, all types of fish or shellfish
Lettuce, Cukes, Peppers, Celery, Artichokes, Beans, Chickpeas, Broccoli, Spinach, Tomatoes
Eggs, Bacon, Fat free or lowfat cheeses
nonfat plain yogurt
sugarfree popcicles or fudgecicles
sugarfree jello, sugarfree pudding
peanuts
butter, low sugar/low carb dressings

Essentially, the meals are as follows
Breakfast consisting mostly of eggs and bacon
Mid-morning snack - usually a cheese stick
Lunch - salads or veggies with a meat
Mid-afternoon snack - celery with laughing cow wedge
Dinners - again, salads or veggies with meats
Dessert - jello/pudding, popcicle, etc....

Some of the lunches on the menu plan had the jello with lunch as well. They say do not, under any circumstances, try to limit your portion size. They say to eat until you feel satisfied (for me, this means eating very, very slow)...but you should not feel hungry during these 2 weeks, so if you, you aren't eating enough.

There is absolutely no counting of carbs or calories. They say if you eat what's allowed, whatever the quantity, and avoid the unallowable items, you will lose weight. Sounds simple!
